Who’s Going to Heaven?

The second and longest chapter (Sura) in the Holy Qur’an is entitled al-Baqara meaning “The Cow.”  The sura is so named in reference to the sacrifice of cattle by the ancient Israelites although some say that it is a reference to the masses of humanity equating us to cattle.  Al Baqara is, in my opinion, one of the most important suras in the Qur’an.  It is centered around Moses and the flight of the Israelites from Egypt and their sojourn in the desert.  Among some of the most interesting teachings and wisdom in this sura is verse 62 which says this:

“Those who believe in the Quran (Muslims), and those who follow the Jewish scriptures, and the Christians, and the Sabians, any who believe in God and the Last Day, and work righteousness, shall have their reward with their Lord; on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.”
(Sura 2, al-Baqara 2:62)

Despite what is claimed by some the Qur’an CLEARLY states in this Sura that Muslims, Jews, Christians, and Sabians who do what is right in life will go to Paradise (Heaven).  The Sabians were a monotheistic group of Gnostic (Mandeans), Hermetic (Harranian), and Abrahamic faiths that are mentioned three times in the Qur’an as being members of the People of the Book (Muslims, Christians, and Jews).  The Hadith describes them as merely converts to Islam.  According to some Islamic theologians the Sabians followed the fourth book of Abraham (pbuh) known as the Zabur.  That holy writ was given to King David of ancient Israel according to the Qur’an.  Many modern biblical scholars believe this books is what we cal the Book of Psalms today.

Returning to Sura 2:62, Muslims, Christians, Jews, and even modern Sabians today argue over which faith is going to Heaven when they die but they all seem to ignore the FACT of what the Qur’an says in Sura 2:62.  Clearly all members of these various faiths who do what is right are going to be admitted to Heaven when they die!  Doing what is right (righteousness) is living as God wants us to live by His laws.  Jesus (pbuh) pretty much summoned God’s Law up for us very simply when he said that the the two greatest commandments of Allah are that we are to love God with our whole being (total submission to God) and that we are to LOVE others as we love ourselves.  The greatest of these is LOVE and in the Gospels, in the Book of Romans, we find that “Love fulfills the whole Law of God.”  Perhaps this is the greatest point many religious faithful have missed because it often seems that some among the faithful are rather void of Love for others, sadly.

Sura 2:62 says, “ANY who believe in God and the Last Day….” not some!  That means that ANYONE who believes in God and does what is right is going to Heaven and this could not be more plain.  It does NOT say only the Christians, or Muslims, or Jews, or Sabians but ANYONE.  And LOVE is doing what is right, RIGHTEOUSNESS.  There are those who like to complicate the scriptures but they are pretty straightforward and simple and most people who try to complicate things are people who are trying to create confusion.  The Gospels and the Qur’an both teach that confusion is not from God but from Iblis (Satan) so beware.  Love is doing what is right.  Love is righteousness.  Those who love no matter what their faith as long as they believe in God and do what is right in His eyes are going to Heaven when they die and Sura 2:62 makes this very plain.  Further, contrary to what some seem to believe the Qur’an was NOT given to replace the Gospel or the Torah but it was given to CONFIRM them and the Qur’an states this plainly several times.  So why all the attempts at creating confusion and self righteousness (egotism)?

Of course there are those who do not believe in God at all nor in any of the scriptures and the Qur’an teaches in Sura al-Baqara that Allah has placed a seal on their hearts and ears and a veil over their eyes so they cannot possible understand the scriptures of the Torah, Gospel, or Qur’an.  The Bible says the same thing in the New Testament!  Further, the Quran in Sura al-Baqara says the unbelievers have a disease in their hearts and, in fact, it says God has increased that disease as these people are incurring a gievous penalty which is damnation when they die (Sura 2:10).  These people love to engage in mockery of the Faithful yet it is to their own eternal peril as Allah will throw back their mockery on them and “give them rope in thier transgressions so they will wander like blind ones to and fro”  (Sura 2:15).  In other words, God gives the unbelievers enough rope to hang themselves and in the end that’s exactly what they do.  The Qur’an goes further by saying that unbelievers are “Deaf, dumb, and blind, they will not return to the Path.”  (Sura 2:18)

Sura 2:19 says that the unbelievers fear death.  That would be because somewhere deep down in their souls they know what is going to happen to them when they die and that the hell fires await them.  God only leads those who are unbelievers astray while he leads the truly faithful along the Right Path.  Those who forsake God’s Path stray further and further away from Allah (Sura 2:26).  The unbelievers engage in their mischief and hatred of God and the Faithful but this only causes further loss to themselves as they will discover on the day they die and face God’s Judgement (Sura 2:27).  The Qur’an makes it plain that we are NOT to force people to convert to Islam but that we are only to give them warning and educate unbelievers about God’s Word contained in the Qur’an.  That is our ONLY duty to the unbelievers!  Try to educate them in God’s Word and warn them that they are on their way to Hell and then leave it up to them if they wish to convert to Islam or not.   If not, then it becomes a matter for the unbeliever and Allah who will surely deal with them and their unbelief.  We are not to force people to convert to Islam NOR are we to slaughter them for not converting to Islam!  The Qur’an could not be more clear on these very points!!

Returning to Sura 2:62, clearly Muslims, Christians, Jews, and Sabians (Gnostics) are going to Heaven when they die if they obey God’s Commandments and do what is right in their lives.  Those who do not have the hell fires waiting for them.  So why do Muslims, Christians, Jews, and modern Sabians argue over this claiming that only members of their faith are going to get into Heaven when the Qur’an clearly states otherwise?  Such arguement comes from the human ego, what the Bible clearly refers to as the “Sinful Self.”  The human ego is sinsful because it stands against Allah and is born in egotism and self pride which are the very sins that caused Iblis (Satan) to fall.  He was the first creature to commit the sins of pride and egotism and ALL of those who commit these sins will suffer the same fate.  It’s time we take the Qur’an for what it actually says and STOP trying to confuse it by claiming it says something it does not say.  And this not only applies to Muslims but the Jews when it comes to the Torah and Christians when it comes to the Gospels.  Satan is the author of confusion, not Allah, as the Gospels teach.  Those who believe in God and the Last Day and who do what is right (Love) will enter into Paradise when they die.  Those who disbelieve in God and the Last Day and who do what is wrong (sin and hate) will NOT enter into Paradise when they die but will be cast into Hell.  That’s pretty simple in my mind and Sura 2:62 is VERY simple to understand for all.

So whose getting into Heaven when they die?  The believers who believe in God and the Last Day and who do what is right (Love) plain and simple!  Love fulfills the whole Law of God and Love is the greatest commandment of Allah.  It’s time to take the Quran, Torah, and Gospel for what they say instead of what they do not say.
